Legal Question in Family Law in Louisiana

Resetting of the amount of support

I have been paying my sons mother $470.00 plus Ins. a month in support due to the fact that I was making a lot more in wages than she was. She makes more than me now that I lost my job. Will the courts for sure lower my support payments since there is a change in circumstance since she makes more than me or will I be made to pay this? She keeps telling me that I have to pay this but I do not think I do since our wages is what this was based on to begin with. What do I do? (Plus where or what would I look for in order for a lawyer to represent me if needed, due to no income?)

Re: Resetting of the amount of support

Until you get a court order changing the amount of support the last support order is the law. You must file a motion to amend child support. An involuntary loss of a job is a valid ground for a reduction by the court.

Contact your local "Legal Services Corporation" or "Legal Aid Society". They can either take your case or refer you to an attorney willing to represent you at a reduced fee.
