Legal Question in Family Law in Louisiana

What do I do??

My son is 2 1/2, he hasn't had any contact with his father for the last 2 years, and his father hasn't even paid child support regularly for any length of time. His father has recently filed for joint custody. What do I do, we were never married, and he has nothing to do with my son. My son has a ''father-figure'' in his life already who is willing to adopt as soon as possible. His father has not held down a job for anything peroid of time, and he's never made any effort to send cards, letters, or call to try and talk to my son. What can I do?
