Legal Question in Family Law in Louisiana

If you dont go through the state to get child support from your ex spouse and go through a lawyer what happens when the spouse doesnt pay there child support? I know the state will track him down not let him leave the country if there more than 2500.00 in back child support owed also they will garnish wages income taxes suspend the licence etc.... They will fight to get the child suoort for you and its free! What can a lawyer do if you go through them and what about fees?
