Which state do I hire a lawyer?

I moved from DC to Louisiana a year ago and want to file for child support in the state that the father is a resident, DC. In which state do I hire a lawyer? And will I be required to be present in court even though it is out of state?

I suggest that you file in the state where the child resides.
