Legal Question in Family Law in Louisiana

I'm in the state of Louisiana and in the process of getting married. This is my second marriage and would be my fiance' s first marriage. When gathering documents together we knew we where going to need we discovered that his birth name is not the same as the name that he has used all his life (i.e bank accounts, driver's license, social security card, insurance, etc.) His first name is correct but the last name is different. His birth certificate has him with his mother's last name and he was raised using his father's last name. So all his legal documents are in his father's last name and not his mother's last name. My questions is should he apply for a legal name change so his birth certificate can be changed to the last name he has used all of his life or can we just leave it as it is and get married using the name listed on the birth certificate. I do not plan on changing my name so that is not a concern for me. Thanks for your help!

It is a personal choice. The only times it will be a concern is in applying for passports, marriage certificates, etc. You should check his social security card also as that is usually issued in the birth name. You'll want to make sure any income is uniting to his SS record.
