Legal Question in Family Law in Louisiana

step children want property

my grandmother is 80 years old. her husband divorced her just before he died. the settlement for land and so on had not been finished when he died. how his kids from previous marriage are trying to get her out of the house so that they can get my grandfathers half of the property. now when he died my grandmother recieved nothing from life insurance or anything like that. they recieved it all. i just cant understand how anyone could want to throw and 80 year old woman out of her home. she has just recieved a petition for partition and doesnt have the money to afford legal representation. i would like to know how i go about answering myself for now until we can find legal representation and file for pauper status.

Dear LawGuru Friend,

You need a lawyer, rather than trying to do this stuff yourself. Law is so complex and difficult that even lawyers feel their ways along in the dark, hoping to make the right moves. I am not seeking legal business, and especially not using LawGuru to solicit legal business; but if you can't find a lawyer, and fast, call me. I'm easy to get hold of. I have a web-site right here on LawGuru with my phone number on it. I'm in Lake Charles, and both my home phone and office phone are listed. I've been fussed at by another Lake Charles lawyer for listing my phone number in my answer to LawGuru quesions, so I won't do it here. I recommend you call Andy Casanave and Nick Pizzolatto and see if they can help you. If not, call me! Get you a lawyer and quickly! Do it now; don't wait any longer! Best of luck!

Sincerely,

Hardy Parkerson, Atty.

Pauper status will only keep her from having to advance court costs.

Contact the local "Legal Services Corporation" (Legal Aid) about representing her. She should be able to find an attorney for this problem even if she doesn't qualify for Legal Aid.

If the land is community they can't throw her out. Unfortunately, because of the divorce, she can't keep them from moving in.
