Legal Question in Family Law in Louisiana

support payments

Can a father have his support payments reduced?

He is paying close to $800.00 in support payments a month for two children each from a separate relationsip. He has been married for the past 8 years, and the burden of the amount of payments with his current oligations are weighing heavily. What options are available to him for reducing supports payments?

Thank you

Re: support payments

The amount he owes is determined by his gross monthly income and the gross monthly income of the children's mothers. The amount per child would probably be different if the mothers' incomes are different. It is a simple doing of the math and applying it to the legislatively mandated chart found in the statutes. The father's "present financial obligations" will not affect the child support unless it is directly related to the children.
