Legal Question in Family Law in Louisiana

termination of parental rights

If a father is seeking to terminate his parental rights voluntarily, what, if any, are his obligations after his rights have been terminated? Will he have any responsibility for the child at all (i.e. past or future medical care/medical card, child support, etc.)?

Thank you!

Re: termination of parental rights

Any court ordered obligations such as back due support, back due medical benefits and the like remain due and owing unless specifically eliminated by a subsequent order of the same or superior court. However, courts are very reluctant to bastardize children by terminating parental rights without the best interest of the children being the primary reason. It is hard for me to imagine a court granting a father termination of his rights simply upon his request.
