Visitation and Custody

My ex husband and I have been divorce for about 4 yrs now. He lives in Texas and I live in Louisiana. He has custody of our 4 kids and he is currently active duty military. He has done everything he could to keep me from having contact with my kids. I am on SSI and have limited funds. Is there some way I could get the visitation changed if not get custody? And some way that I could have it enforced? With little or no cost to myself?

It appears that a court has determined that the father should have the children, presumably because of the father's economic situation and other factors. If it was a TX court that determined custody, then you would have to convince that court that those kids should go to LA and I don't see that happening if the father already has the kids and has a more comfortable lifestyle. If you think there is some reason why you should have custody other than the fact that you want custody, you can contact the LA or TX bar association and ask for a referral to their attorneys who give discounted fees to low income clients and ask the TX court to adjust the standing order so you can see the kids more often. But if you simply want the kids, then you might have to wait for them to get old enough to decide on their own who they visit and live with.
