Dear Law.Guru Friend,
By all means! Yes, grandparents have visitation rights, but they have to be asserted. There is a statute on just that, and you need to get a copy of the statute and read and study it so as to know your rights. I am away from my law books as I write this, but if you will contact me during the day at (337) 478-6126, I will either mail or fax you a copy of the applicable Louisiana state statute on grandparent visitation rights. You may call Dawn (Mrs. Warren) Theriot in Moss Bluff (Lake Charles), LA, and ask her what she knows; for she was the one who got the law passed in the Louisiana legislature. Best of luck!
Sincerely,
Hardy Parkerson, Atty.
Lake Charles, LA
P.S.: Go to your search engine for Louisiana legislature, and the Louisiana Revised Statutes are on line. Perhaps you are a good enough researcher to find the applicable statute on grandparent visitation rights.
Re: Visitation rights of grandparents
Grandparents' rights to visit come through their child. If their child is deceased, or has lost or refuses to visit with their child, then the grandparents can request visitation rights. The best interest of the child will be the determining factor.
