Legal Question in Family Law in Louisiana
Will my husband be made to pay back child support in Louisiana if the mother did not show up for DNA testing and he submitted his DNA when the child was 5 and she is now 17? I believe it was court ordered or even order by the public assistance office. The mother has been recieving public assistance since he was born, but she uses another name as the father to recieve her assistance. He really wants to find out for sure now. Every time he mentions it to her mother she gives him the run around, and he does do a little to support her eventhough he has doubts.

I do believe that "he really wants to find out for sure now," but not whether he has a daughter, but whether he has to pay back support. Sorry, but speaking to the mother for 12 years while a little girl grows up without a "real" father and you husband doing nothing but "mentioning" things to the mother, is dispicable to me. He could have at any time forced the issue. He chose not to. I suggest he waits until she is 18 and ask her is she wants to know if he is the father. If she does, then it is easily done. But what is the point except she will be able to inherit from him. And, should he die without knowing, she could still claim paternity as a result of the child support action.
