Legal separation no longer exists under Louisiana law. When parties speak of "separation" under current Louisiana law, they only mean the physicial separation required prior to getting a divorce--living separate and apart for 6 months, one year, whichever applies. However, the community property regime continues until divorce is obtained. You can no longer get a Judgment of Separation.
