Can I be fired or laid off from a job due to my child being ill and needing my attention?

It depends on the seriousness of the illness of your child. You may be entitled to leave under the FMLS to care for a sick child if the child has a "serious medical condition" - this is obviously more than a cold or fever. Also, you would have to be covered by the FMLA to begin with. In short, the answer can be yes or no, just depends on other infomration you haven't provided .
