Answer to petition

How do I answer the petition for an indebtness that I have paid and one that is still owed. I returned to work in Jan of this year after being out with my spouse who died in Aug 2002. I cannot afford an attorney and I must answer the petition by 6/25/03 (15 days after being served).

File an answer, even a letter showing the caption (parties names and case number) denying you owe what the plaintiff claims. Then its up to the plaintiff to move the case forward to trial. If you don't file anything, the plaintiff can get a default judgment against you.
