Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Louisiana

My boyfriend and I bought a house. The house is in his name "only". I put the down payment on the house. If we "split" up (house is not paid for) is there any way I can get my down-payment amount back.

Sorry, but I have been a lawyer for 38 years and it always amazes me when a woman puts up money for her "man" who is not her husband. I have NEVER had a man come to me with the same problem. You can try to recoup your money AFTER the breakup, but you know you gave money to a bum and now you are about to be shown why you were not smart. If you are not near breaking up, then try to get you money back now. However, you would never have asked this question if you did not know it is coming. Does he have another woman or is acting like he does? He will claim you "gave" him the money as a gift and you will call it a "loan." I suspect when you put up the money you expected to live together as a "couple" even though there was some reason marriage was out of the question. Could it be that you "don't need a piece of paper to confirm your love for each other?" Or, he has been hurt before giving his whole being to some woman who betrayed him? Or worse, he is still married.
