Can I get my grandmother's money?

A mother has been dead for over 16 years. Your grandmother dieds in a car accident this month. Is my sister and I entitled to a part of the money that my aunt's and uncles will recieve for compensation from the accident for my dead mother? We are her hiers, right?

Generally speaking, when there is no will, the surviving spouse and the living children inherit equally. This is called intestate succession.

Grandchildren will inherit from their grandparents only if their parents have predeceased the grandparents, as the same rule applies.
