Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Louisiana

One of my in-laws had me arrested...stating that I put sugar in the tank of her car (over $500 so it was a felony). She had no evidence for this and I was found not guilty. When I was arrested, I had to pay a little over $600 to bond out (5,000 bond) and I had to pay a small fee for a court appointed attorney. My question is...can I now sue her for defermation of character and false arrest? and will I be able to sue for at least $10,000 (5,000 for entire bond amount and $5,000 for the fact that I work with kids and my name was listed in the newspaper for this arrest)

Speak to an attorney in person who can look at the record. You could sue your in-law, but there is some reason the prosecutor went forward with the trial, so speak with an attorney.
