Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Louisiana

i received a citation it gives me 15 days to respond or appear or by filing a pleading. i don't understand anything it says. i know i don't have the 5 grand it mentions does this mean that my wages are going to be garnished or do i go to jail

You need to file a response within 15 days of being served or they will get a default judgment agaisnt you. You should go to the clerk's office immediately and file a motion for extension of time. They may have a form for that (many clerk's offices do). That will give you an additional 30 days to go find an attorney to answer for you.

Do not simply ignore the petition. If you sit and do nothing, you will be defaulted and then your wages may be garnished and your property seized to pay the judgment.
