In the state of Louisiana, if a senior citizen (widowed) were to enter a nursing home and has filed for medicaid to cover the cost of the facility, can the state take the home from the family if the home has a reverse mortgage on it?

You should consult a social security attorney who has been provided with all the details. However, usually the person receiving care has to qualify financially to have Medicaid pay for this type of care. The senior can't have any assets to qualify. If the home, though mortgaged, is an asset (and they usually are) then it could be a problem.
