Legal Question in Immigration Law in Louisiana

What happens if they know I am divorced?

I passed the US history test. Now I recieved the invitation for the naturalization ceremony. On the back of the form, one of the questions i have to answer whether I got divorced between the history test and now. The truth is I got divorced. Is it going to affect my eligibility for becoming a citizen? I am becoming a citizen because I am married to a US citizen. I became a permenant resident in July, 1999. It's almost 5 years ago, lacking a month (the naturalization ceremony date is beginning of June,2004). Will they make me reapply just because I am lacking a month till 5 years of being a permanent resident? Should I tell them about the divorce?

Thanks

Re: What happens if they know I am divorced?

I assume your divorce is finalized. To be eligible for naturalization as the spouse of a US citizen (with 3 years as a green card holder) you must still be with your spouse. Otherwise you need five years BEFORE FILING.
