Legal Question in Immigration Law in Louisiana

H1B and then obtain Green Card

Hi, I just got my H1B visa for my

first three years, what is the next

step for the green card process?

My company says that they can't

afford it right now, that I have to

wait until then can. I don't know

how long would that take, and I'd

like to start the process by myself.

Is that convenient? or should I wait

for them to cover the expenses?

Please advise.

Thanks

Re: H1B and then obtain Green Card

The costs for the labor certification is actually not very significant if the proper recruitment steps are chosen. There is no filing fee for the PERM application for example.

Please feel free to contact me and I can forward you additional information (as well as for your employer) that may clarify the process.

Depending upon your country of nationality and your level of education/work experience, you may find that starting now, early in your H-1b time, would significantly benefit you. There can be advertising costs associated with labor certification, and you would also want to take into consideration whether the current job market would be an issue for you, but costs can certainly be kept to a minimum for the start of the process. Please email or call my office if you have further questions.
