Legal Question in Insurance Law in Louisiana

Back-dated Claims

In Jan 2004, I sent a form to BCBSLA to add my husband to my health insurance policy. By mid Feb I was told the process was ''still in underwriting''. We continued using our own seperate policies.

On March 9th my husband had to have surgery on his shoulder. 1 day after his surgery I was told that he had been added to my policy on Febuary 1st. We had paid our separate policy premiums for both Feb and March and a new bill arrived at our house for a combined premium due March 1st.

This transfer onto my policy doubled our deductible, which was never mentioned to me. How can BCBSLA approve the transfer of policies on Feb 1st and still tell me in mid-Feb that everything was ''still in underwriting''.

This surgery should be filed under his ''old'' policy, and not mine.

My husband has yet to receive his refund of the premium paid for March, and continues to receive identification cards with his ''old'' policy information.

I realize you may think this is a waste of time, but I would appreciate at least some sort of response to whether or not we are being ''screwed'' by the insurance company.

I appreciate your time and patience, thank you.

Re: Back-dated Claims

I think I messed up by approving your question because I am lost....what is BCBSLA?
