Legal Question in Insurance Law in Louisiana

My girlfriend/exgirlfriend is pregnant and her parents are trying to force me to pay their copayments for their insurance. I will do this for my child and her safety and will gladly do it. I have no problems doing that. I was just curious to the legality of this and if they can legally make me do that.

Dear LawGuru Friend,

From your question it appears that you agree

that you are the father of the child that your

girlfriend/ex-girlfriend--whatever--is pregnant with.

No, they can't force you to do this, unless they

or their daughter sues you and takes the issue

before a Judge; and then they can make you

pay the whole bill, not just the co-pay. You say

you are glad to pay the co-pay, so you are smart

in doing so; especially if you are indeed the real

father and if you plan to assert some rights concerning

the said child to be born soon. There is a lot more

to it all than this, but this is something to think

about. You are wise and kind in being willing to

pay what they have asked you to pay. If you would

like to discuss this matter further with me, e-mail

me your name and phone number to [email protected],

and I will call you and we can discuss this matter further.

There will be no charge, as I am now retired and resigned

from the practice of law. However, I still love the law and

I also love helping people with their legal problems.

With kindest regards and best wishes, I am

Sincerely,

Hardy Parkerson, J.D.
