Legal Question in Intellectual Property in Louisiana

Copyright Infringement

I took an oil & gas seminar and as part of the class, received a copyrighted list w/ names of brokers from around the country.

If I were to take the list, recompile or change it around and claim the new one as my copyright, is that considered infringement on the first copyrighted list?

Facts are not protectable by copyright. If the class registration materials prohibit further distribution, however, you would have a contract law problem... else, there is no bar to replicating the facts in the materials.
