Legal Question in Juvenile Dependency in Louisiana

minor child

My daughter is 12 years old and is interested in a young man she met thru the internet who lives in CA and is 17 years old. If he tries to pursue this would he be breaking any laws.

Yes.

First of all, unless you know this man is 17, assume he is older. There is an excellent chance that he is a sexual predator.

At this time they apparently haven't met. In case they do, in Louisiana a 17 year old is an adult in the criminal courts. Sexual activity with a person under 17 by a person more than 2 years older than the younger person (the law refers to this person as the victim) is criminal behavior.
