Legal Question in Employment Law in Louisiana

denied a job

My daughter applied for a CO job at a federal prison and after an interview she was denied the postion because her present employer gave her a bad recommendation when she had blocked on her application not to contact present employer. She is the only white person working the night shift and she has been working for 7 years and finally decided to step out and apply for another job. Is it alright for them to contact your empolyer when you blocked no on the application? She was still employed at the time of interview now they know she is looking for another job and with a bad recommendation how will she ever be able to get another job.

Re: denied a job

I believe they can contact anyone they want to when vetting a prospective employee. I believe that would be even more appropriate if the employer is a prison.....and even more appropriate if it is a federal prison. The feds check everything most of the time. It is sort of like asking them NOT to check your criminal record. If your prior employer wrote something that was false, you may have an action against him.
