Employer wants to relocate me
I've been working for the state for 28 years and now 2 years before my retirement they want to move me to another location with the same pay. The only downside is this: Me and my family currently live in a state house and the electricity and water are all paid by them. What are my legal rights. Can they move me to a site that is 30 mins away and entails different duties? If so should they be liable for what the housing etc is worth to me. Should that be added to my income? I've been living here on site for 28 years with the same arrangements.

Since you asked, my guess is that unless you have some contractual right to stay where you are, then they can transfer you wherever they need you the most. The decision is their, as I see it. Or, in case there is some state law or regulation that says one holding a position such as yours is entitled to certain employment and housing rights and privileges. These are just my first thoughts, without having time to really think it over. It looks to me as if you are near enough to retirement that you might not want to balk and possibly be terminated and thus miss your full retirement benefits. Of course, I will have to admit that I hold no claims to being a labor and/or employment lawyer, much less a legal specialist in such fields. Good luck!
