Legal Question in Employment Law in Louisiana

employer requiring 24/7 on call for a salaried employee

I am a IT professional that has been told by my employer I must be on call 24/7. Is this legal? If that is the case I should not have to use my personal time.

Many people are on call 24/7. An obvious example is a soldier in Iraq. It is legal. However, in a civilian setting, you should be paid for the time over 40 hours a week. Check the job description and/or employment contract.
