Legal Question in Employment Law in Louisiana

I an an ex-correction officer: I was on this job 12 hour shift, we did not have a mandatory break. If the facility gave you a write-up you were suspended , but you had to report for duty and monies were deducted from your pay. Also we were in roll- call at a 15 minute before we were to report for duty for free and could clock in until the hour. This place had faulty equipment( radio that were secured with rubber bands or clear tape. I feel as if i was working under unsafe conditions. All is it legal for a felony to work in a facility as a resident, of that facility and get paid more then the officers. If an employer policies are that in order for anyone to obtain a higher rank, they have to be employed a year before rank is given. Can they go against that facility procedures and give someone rank.

The one thing they cannot do is correct you to work without clicking in. That is a bid no no. The break issue could be problematic as well but I would need more information.

I apologize for my previous answer. I answered your question on my smartphone and "autocorrect" appears to have made it most illegible. Here is what I wanted to tell you:

"The one thing they cannot do is compel you to work without clocking in. That is a big no-no."

There is a widely-reported class action involving Wal-Mart (you can find it on the Internet) where that company was forcing workers to clock out and then return to work to finish their "side work". They were hit with a huge class action judgment for that illegal practice.
