Legal Question in Employment Law in Louisiana
I was a hotel manager then deomted to an assistant general manager by my employer, due a situation that took place in the workplace. About two months ago. At the time I was hotel manager and my assistant general manager had a confrontation with an employee. It went as far as my assistant getting angry and thrrew a mop bucket at the employees car and cracked her windshield. I witnessed this happening and I tried difusing the situation as best as I could by telling the aggressor (AGM) to leave the property which he did. I also left due to me having to get my 5 yr old son off the school bus. Once I left I contacted my regional and notfied her of the situation. Two days later she stated to me that I will be demoted with a pay decrease. Her reason for that being is because she felt that I should hav neverleft the property and suspended bth employees. I have been working for this company for six years and have never been written
up and have great work perfomance. I have only been in management for 1 1/2 years with no training and especially no training on handling a situation of that nature. I only made a decision that I felt was best at that time and called my immediate supervisor immediately. Now my boss has stated to me that she will be hiring a new hotel manager which would put me in a very uncomfortable position. I'm currently still working there with a pay deduction and demotion and I'm still required to do the duties of of a hotel manager, without the pay. I'm the only manager managing the hotel. Will I be able to quit and still receve unemployment under these circumstances? Also I. Recently found a firearm in a guest room and drug paraphenila in a guest room. Turns out the guest had drugs and money in the room. He has called and harrassed me t the hotel . I feel my safety is at jeopardy not knowing if he will come back fr revenge. I have advised my concerns to my boss and she has not taken any precautions for me nor other employees. Are these grounds to quit and receive unemployment? Please advice. Thanks

You can file after quitting but you will have to prove that conditions caused by the employer were such that you could not continue working. The demotion and pay cut are insufficient.
