Legal Question in Employment Law in Louisiana
Jobs that Convicted Felons are not allowed to hold
I am a teacher who pled guilty to a mailfraud charge. Does this mean I will never teach again? If it does, I need to change careers. Before I spend the time and money to do this, I need to know what job options are available to me. Also, is there any way to clear my record of a felony charge?

Re: Jobs that Convicted Felons are not allowed to hold
Dear LawGuru Friend,
Sorry about your legal problem, but it's not th end of the world. I assume that your conviction was a federal conviction, as mail fraud usually is. If so, your hope for a pardon depends on federal law. Start to look into what you must do to get a federal pardon. Also, study into what may be done for you to obtain a State of Louisiana pardon for the federal conviction. In Louisiana, I know that an automatic pardon follows the completion successfully of your sentence, whatever it may be. I do not know if an automatic pardon follows such a federal conviction. Also, check with various personnel offices for school systems and just outright ask them what the effect of such a conviction will be in seeking employment again. Also, do not overlook private schools which might accept your explanation of how you managed to get into the trouble you got in to. My brother at one time was head of personnel for a large Texas independent school district near Houston. If you would like, I can broach the subject with him and find out out what he tells me. He is certainly an expert on such matters in Texas. Feel free to call or e-mail me about this. Don't lose hope as a teacher! You'll make it! Hang in there! Good luck! Presidemt Bush can pardon you, for sure. Find out how one goes about getting a Federal pardon. There must surely be a federal pardon board, just like there is a state pardon board in Baton Rouge. Again, good luck!
