Legal Question in Employment Law in Louisiana
I have worked for a company for over 4 yrs now that has consistently promised me promotions that never happened, with no explanation. I was told over a year ago that I have to sign a noncompete contract (Louisiana). Although my title is "bid specialist", I am listed as admin asst in sales, at the same pay scale.
My question is this: If a competitor offers me a job with a different title with a salary twice what I'm making, does the contract hold water? I am regarded as a clerical worker with no perks or incentives, and my job is considered insignificant when I ask for a raise or promotion. So, how can I resist being the allure of being held in higher regard with an official title and a much, much higher paycheck? How can any court deny me that? I just want to get some advise before I go on that interview.

The answer depends on the contract you signed. Non-compete agreements cannot be enforced longer than three years.
