Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Louisiana
I am looking to break a lease. The lease states that I need to give a 30 - day notice before moving out. I spoke with my leasing agent and she told me that the 30 - days starts at the first of the next month. My lease does not state that the 30 - days starts on the first of the month. This would force me to pay rent for almost 2 more months versus 1 more month. Does the 30 - day notice have to start on the first of the month?

The wording of the lease controls the agreement. What you are describing is a pro rating of the rent for the 30 days. Most landlords will not take partial rent even if the tenant moves out prior to the end of the month. The 30 day notice will not allow you to pay only a portion of the next month's rent.
