Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Louisiana

being evicted from home

I am 30 years old and living with my

parents. I currently do not have

employment, but do have new job

prospects. My parent's and I are not

getting along and they have told me

to pack my things and get out. What

kind of time frame do i have before I

absolutely must move out? Can they

just forcefully make me leave? What

is the proper procedure in this kind of

case, because I have no where to go

and absolutely no money? Do I have

the right to time to look for a new

living arrangement? I am not on

drugs or have violent tendencies; this

is an issue of mismatched lifestyles.

Can you please help me?

Re: being evicted from home

Since you don't have a lease, you have no legal right to stay there. Your parents do not need to evict you, they would only have to call the police and have you removed as a trespasser. You have no right to force your parents to allow you to stay with them.

As a side note, even if you were entitled to a hearing on an eviction (which you are not), Louisiana law only gives an evicted tenant 24 hours to vacate.
