Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Louisiana

Me and my family was living in a apartment in southwest louisiana. Our lease was ending soon and beings the day we had to leave was on a saturday my husband called and ask when he could drop off the keys to the apartment. He also said that he had some things he needed to get out first. The manager said he could drop them off the day he picked up the rest of his belongings. He told her he could do that on Tuesday, which was the Tuesday before that Saturday. We couldnt make it on that day until that Friday. He went to go pick up our stuff and it was missing. He went to the office and asked the assistant manager where our stuff was she said the manager removed yals stuff here, the office, so they can begin getting the apartment ready for the next tenants. He got our stuff and noticed some was missing. When he asked about that all they said was that was all that was in there which was a lie. He did call the sheriff's office but beings the manager wasnt there he needed more to report it. Now they removed our stuff without permission, started fixing up the apartment for the next tenants, and not to mention entering the apartment without a 24 hr notice which was in our lease agreement , this happened all before the lease agreement was up. What can we do about this? Any help would be appreciated!

I am sorry to hear about that. We would have to review the terms of your lease agreement to determine whether or not there is anything contained in the lease agreement which allowed the manager to access the apartment without your permission and without providing notice. With regard to your missing items, it would be based on what you would be able to prove in a court of law. For starters, you can call the sheriff's office again and ask them to take a police report detailing the missing items. Also, if you had renter's insurance, you may be able to file a claim. Finally, it is best for you to consult an attorney in your area who would be able to advise you in detail on your legal matter. Thanks so much for your question.
