Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Louisiana
I have a friend that moved in October. We are not longer getting along and things are heated. I have told her she has a week to move from my home because i don't trust her. i told her i would have the locks changed monday if her regardless of her stuff moved or not. not sure of the law because we never had any kind of contract or agreement. can i give her a week? can i change the locks? she threatened bringing the cops. i told her i would put her things outside because i don't want them in my home period. so, just checking on my rights in regards to this matter. Thank you!

You said "your home" so I assume you own the house. If that is the case, and she was a girlfriend, then if she refuses to leave by a date certain, you can charge her with trespassing. If she was paying rent then you may have to give her 30 days notice to move. If it is your house you can change the lock but you must give her a key IF she was paying rent or there was some sort of agreement between the 2 of you.
