Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Louisiana
About three months ago my roommate wrongfully evicted me. I was not on the lease but I paid monthly rent and established residency (New Orleans, La). She told me not to return to the house and sent text messages threatening physical harm if I came on the property to get my personal belongings. She would not answer the door when I showed up with a police escort to pick up those belongings on more than one occasion. She also anonymously called Animal Control and reported my cat of twelve years as a stray. As a result of this, my cat was put to sleep. On top of all this, she also defamed my character on the website TheDirty.com. I have an inventory list put together with the best of my knowledge and the worth of these items is between $3500-$4000. That does not include the pain and suffering for the loss of my pet that has been with me my whole adult life, the mental anguish from her slanderous post on the internet and the mean and hurtful comments written in response to her post. Nor does this include the month of occasional hotel rooms and sofa surfing I had to endure as a result of not having a place to live because I was not allowed back in the house. I do not feel anywhere close to being or feeling recovered or settled from this whole situation. How do I go about getting this situation resolved as soon as possible. It has already been too long and drawn out but I do not know what to do next.

You can sue for damages but it will not be worth the time unless the person has funds or property from which you can collect.
