Re: security deposit

The law says that the landlord must return your deposit within 30 days of your moving out. If there was damage to the apartment, the landlord is allowed to deduct REASONABLE repair costs from the deposit.

If you feel that the landlord has kept more of your deposit than he is legally entitled to keep, you can go down to the local Justice of the Peace or City Court (depending on which parish you live in) and file a small claims suit. You can sue for up to $3,000.00 and you don't need a lawyer. Good luck.
