security deposit
my landlord has told me he will return the deposit, but has not. my kids damaged two doors but he has not return the money and we paid1,000 dollars he says that he will only give back 500.00 because he trying to get 975.00 a month when the rent used to be 680.00 ,but he is trying to make repairs so he can get more money and charge to us.

The law says that the landlord must return your deposit within 30 days of your moving out. If there was damage to the apartment, the landlord is allowed to deduct REASONABLE repair costs from the deposit.
If you feel that the landlord has kept more of your deposit than he is legally entitled to keep, you can go down to the local Justice of the Peace or City Court (depending on which parish you live in) and file a small claims suit. You can sue for up to $3,000.00 and you don't need a lawyer. Good luck.
