Legal Question in Legal Ethics in Louisiana

Fema

How should I respond to a letter from FEMA telling me I need to pay back rental assistance? It reads ''FEMA has reviewed your file for potential duplication of benefits. Our records indicate that you have received rental assistance and were also leased into a travel trailer or mobile home during the same period of time. FEMA cannot duplicate the assistance provided. We are requesting receipts to show exhaustion of the ER funds prior to leasing the TT/MH. Please send any rent or hotel/motel receipts to the address above, within 30 days of the date of this letter to show how the rental assistance was used. Failure to provide these receipts may result in action against you to recover the unused portion of rental assistance.

Your appeal letter must be postmarked within 60 days of the date of your notification letter. Appeals will not be accepted after this date.''

I never requested nor received a travel trailer or mobile home. I did requet and receive $2000 rental assistance. I stayed in a hotel for 12 nights at $45 a night. I haven't found those rcpts. The rest of

the assistance went to the down payment (500) and 1st 2 mtg pmnts (545 ea). What should I include in the appeal letter so they'll close my file?

Re: Fema

You would need to provide proof that you had a legitimate right to that money they gave you and that you spent if on proper costs. Find those receipts and don't mail off originals.
