Legal Question in Legal Malpractice in Louisiana

Loose lipped attorney

We currently have an attorney on retainer to represent us in an upcoming suit against our homeowners insurance carrier. When a nosy relative contacted her to find out how much had been paid on our claim thus far, she revealed how many checks had been issued and the amounts of each one. Isn't that attorney- client privilege, and what should we do?

Re: Loose lipped attorney

You have the wrong term. It is not attorney-client privilege, but a breach of the duty of confidentiality.

I would write the attorney a letter and additionally have a conversation with her instructing her not to disclose any other information about your case to anyone, unless it is case related.
