Mediation does not favor either side. It is a opportunity for both sides to seek an agreement instead of going to trial. Despite statements that some people make, in most cases the defendant does owe the plaintiff something. The parties might disagree on the amounts but not that the debt exists. Mediation gives both sides a chance to intelligently negotiate and hopefully reach an agreement that everyone concerned is comfortable with.
