Legal Question in Medical Malpractice in Louisiana

Misdiagnosed surgery.

In 1996 I was diagnosed with diverticulitis and told that it was so severe I required immediate surgery. They removed my entire colon and I have had a wide range of medical problems since. I was recently diagnosed with crohn's disease and told me the doctors that diagnosed me in 1996 were wrong and by removing my colon they made my problems worse, which is why I have been having all these problems. I figured that since it was so long ago there is nothing that can be done, however I am upset and I wanted to know if there is something I can do.

You have 1 year after you discover the malpractice to file a claim in Louisiana. However, all rights to sue are lost 3 years after the procedure that is complained of. From what you write, you have no right to sue for the 1996 misdiagnosis/surgery.
