Legal Question in Personal Injury in Louisiana

Faulty staircase and carpet and electrical problems

I have been living in this apartment for almost 2yrs.It has a faulty staircase worn carpet and bad electrical problems and I told them to fix it since I first got here but they always say they are going to send somebody out but they don't.I fell down the stairs and broke a bone in my knee and hurt my shoulder.I went to therapy and the doctor told me to contact a lawyer and find out what my legal rights are. I'm disabled and elderly. Could you please tell me what are my legal rights and do I have a case?

Thank you

Re: Faulty staircase and carpet and electrical problems

If you fell because of s defect in the stairs, you may have a claim against the landlord and his/her liability insurance company. You would be able to recover your medical expenses and an amount for pain and suffering.

Whether or not you have a valid claim depends on the nature of the defect. If it was something you knew about, like a loose board, this would make your recovery more difficult. On the other hand, if a board broke when you stepped on it, this would make for an easier claim. It depends a lot on why you fell.
