Legal Question in Personal Injury in Louisiana

Settling With Workers Compensation

I have just received my MMI rating for my injury. I have not received any legal advise. The company I worked for and workers comp. have paid for all of my medical bills including 3 surgeries. I have had no problems receiving weekly checks since 10/31/2001. I am being told by family I should get a lawyer. I need to know how to figure out what I can expect for a lump sum settlement. Would it be better to allow them to continue paying me and pay for training for a new job? Do I need a lawyer to make sure they will be responsible for future medical problems or is this something I can do myself at the time of settlement?
