Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Louisiana
My ex bought me a car back in June of 2011. when he bought me this car we were still together. I was not working due to i was visiting him for a few month out of state. he readily told me, that if i came to spend time with him he would cover all my expenses without question. He took it upon himself to pay my bills and bought me a used car with out any intent of me paying him back on either on our ends. Upon buying me this used car he was aware that once i got the car i was going back home with my children (who were with me while staying with him) so i could get back to work. When he bought the car both of our names were put on the title. Approximately 2-3 weeks after i got back to Louisana (where i live) i was able to transfer the title of the car into my name only. After doing so we broke up. Now he is telling me he is going to take me to court to get back the money he paid for on the car. Does he have any legal standing in the state of Louisana since it was a gift to me and i was never obligated to pay him back, and since i am the only name on the title?

Anyone can sue but that doesn't mean they will be successful. He would have a difficult time proving that he owns the car except for the original title. You would still have the argument that it was a gift.
