Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Louisiana

death- land- debt

My husband died with no will. He had some debt I was not aware of. I contacted these people about his death--4 yrs. have passed. According to Louisiana law his family land goes to my child. I cannot afford to keep it up, but I am afraid to sell it because of the debt which is more than the land is worth. If I sell, I have been told I will then be responsible for his debt. I am from a different state. What can I do to avoid financial ruin?

Re: death- land- debt

Have you done a succession on your late husband yet? You should probably consult with a succession attorney to resolve this matter.

You can also consult an AL attorney regarding protecting yourself through bankruptcy; we can give you a free referral to an AL attorney if you wish.
