Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Louisiana
Dividing property
i currrently live with my boyfriend and we purchased a home together, we reside here with my two children. Both of our names are on the title. What do i have to do if we separate. I put all the money down when the home was purchased. i have paid the majority of the morgage payments since the purchase of the home. Before purchasing the home my boyfriend signed a paper stating that if the relationship desolved or he passed away I would become sole owner of the home. I am ready to leave the relationship but dont want to loose the money I have inversted into this property. What are my options as of now to get him out of the home?

Re: Dividing property
You each own 1/2 of the property and you need to see how he wants to split it up. If you cannot agree, then you will have to ask the court to sell the property. I do not believe you will be able to get the court to give you the house and you either pay him or he reimburses you. At the sale of the house, you can claim your separate contributions as reimbursable.
