Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Louisiana
Donation, Sale, Partition
There is a commercial building and land co-owned by two families. My father passed away recently which gives his ownership of the property to my mother and his children. One year ago, I requested the co-owners (second family) to donate their share of the property to me, in exchange my family or I pay their share of the large amount of taxes due. The co-owners' response is to be bought out or sell the property.
My lawyer decided to write a dation and not a donation to request the co-owners share. Now because of their response, my lawyer says to do a partition to get their share. My family is currently in possession of the building and the property it sits on.
Is a partition the better way to go to encourage the co-owners to relinquish their share of the building and land? Can I request a copy of all documents sent to the co-owners' lawyer and received from their lawyer?

Your lawyer knows alot more about this than I do. Stick with him or fire him and find someone else. I cannot second guess him without know a whole lot more.
