Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Louisiana
A general contractor I hired to do some work demanded more money than what we agreed upon. We did not have a contract, but he gave me a written estimate. I've asked for receipts to prove that I owe him this money and he has refused. Now he has filed a lien on my property. Is this lien legitimate if we didn't ever sign a contract?

It could be. It depends on how much more you're being asked to pay, as well as other circumstances. An estimate is just that. Unless the total is unreasonably more than the estimate, the bill is valid.
